FORT McMURRAY, AB (October 22, 2014) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League today announced a series of roster moves.
The team confirmed that goaltender Jayden Sittler (Red Deer, AB) has reported to the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League after his rights were traded there by the Kootenay Ice yesterday.
The Barons have added 1997-born goalie Tristen Brown (Edson, AB) as an emergency backup to starting goalie Zach Fortin (St. Jerome, PQ), who will travel with the team for its road trip to Lloydminster this weekend.
The team also announced today that 1996-born forward Matt Lueken (Fairview, AB) and 1995-born forward Doug Morris (Beaumont, AB), both with the Junior B Fairview Flyers of the North-West Junior Hockey League (NWJHL), have joined the Oil Barons as affiliate players. Both are expected to travel with the MOB to Lloydminster this weekend.
Lueken, listed at 6’0” and 194 lbs, played in 39 games for the Olds Grizzlys (AJHL) last year, scoring two assists with 70 penalty minutes. Morris scored four goals and 14 assists in 31 games with the Drayton Valley Thunder last season, and prior to that scored 11 goals and 5 assists in 39 games with the Spruce Grove Saints in 2012-13.
Finally, the Oil Barons announced the release of 1995-born defenceman Drake Longaker (San Jose, CA). The organization has arranged for a new place for Longaker to play, but is respecting his wish to consider all of his options before deciding whether to report to that team.
The Barons face the Lloydminster Bobcats on Friday and Saturday nights this weekend at the Centennial Civic Centre in Saskatchewan, with both games starting at 7:30 PM.
The next home game for the Barons is Halloween Night, October 31st, when they take on the Spruce Grove Saints at 8 PM. Fans are encouraged to come to the game in costume for a chance at great prizes.
