FORT McMURRAY, AB — The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are pleased to announce the signing of defenceman Paulo Borrelli for the 2026-27 season.
The 2008 born blueliner from Edmonton, Alberta joins the Oil Barons following a strong season with the Edmonton Junior Oilers Blue U18 AAA program. In 32 games, Borrelli recorded 31 points (4 goals, 27 assists), showcasing his ability to move the puck effectively and contribute offensively from the back end.
Borrelli also gained valuable junior experience during the 2025-26 season, appearing in two games with the Oil Barons and making his Alberta Junior Hockey League debut.
“Paulo moves the puck efficiently and has an excellent first pass that helps transition the play quickly out of the defensive zone,” said Oil Barons Assistant General Manager Jesse Mattson. “His hockey IQ stands out on both sides of the puck, as he reads the game well and makes smart, composed decisions under pressure. In addition to his on-ice abilities, Paulo brings strong leadership qualities that we value highly within our group. We look forward to his continued development and the impact he will have on our team.”
