Oil Barons Acquire Morison, Trade Newman to Canucks

Fort McMurray, AB (September 8, 2017) – The Fort McMurray have acquired the CJHL playing rights to 1998-born forward Reed Morison (Calgary, AB) from the Calgary Canucks for 1997-born defenceman Kyler Newman (Lethbridge, AB) and future considerations.

Morison, 19, appeared in 64 games with the Kootenay Ice of the WHL last season, tallying seven points (two goals, five assists). In 39 games with the Canucks during the 2015-16 AJHL season, Morison recorded 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists).

“Reed’s a big-body power forward that has some major junior experience and a player that we feel will compliment our group of forwards,” said MOB Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca.

“He’s a player that skates well and can play in a number of game situations including the power play and penalty kill. We’re excited to welcome him north to Fort McMurray.”

Newman, 20, appeared in 64 games over the past two seasons with the MOB, where he was a steady presence on the blue line and recorded 13 points (three goals, 10 assists). The Oil Barons would like to thank Kyler for all of his contributions over the past two seasons and wish him all the best in the future.
