MOB acquire Oszytko from Crusaders, trade Cox

Fort McMurray, AB (October 31, 2017) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons have acquired 1998-born forward Merritt Oszytko (Edmonton, AB) from the Sherwood Park Crusaders in exchange for 1998-born forward Ryan Cox (St. Albert, AB).

Oszytko, 19, has recorded 19 points (10 goals, nine assists) and 14 penalty minutes in 17 games with the Crusaders this season. In 59 games with the Crusaders last year, the 6’2, 170 pound forward registered  41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) and 39 penalty minutes.

“Merritt’s a player that possesses size, speed, and a willingness to compete every night,” said MOB Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca. “He’s a player that can play in a number of game situations, including the power play and penalty kill – and as a coaching staff we felt that he will complement our group of forwards.”

Cox, 19, has registered 15 points (nine goals, six assists) and 22 penalty minutes in 17 games with the MOB this season. In 50 games with the MOB last season, Cox recorded 50 points (21 goals, 19 assists) and 34 penalty minutes.

“In this league to get a good player, you have to give up a good player,” said Keca. “Ryan’s a good player in this league and a tremendous teammate. As an organization, we’d like to thank him for his contributions as an Oil Baron and wish him the best now and in the future.”
