Fort McMurray, Alta. (Jan. 8, 2016) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) have acquired 1997-born defenceman Austin Cameron (Airdrie, Alta.) from the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) for future considerations.
Cameron, 19, has split time between the Klippers and Olds Grizzlys this season, recording one assist and 31 penalty minutes in 14 games. Prior to this season, Cameron spent two seasons with the Strathmore Midget AAA Bisons, where he recorded 26 points (five goals, 21 assists) and 149 penalty minutes in 64 games. He also helped the Bisons capture the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL) title last season and reach the bronze medal game of the Telus Cup, Canada’s national midget championship.
“Austin is a a big, puck-moving defencemen that plays well in both the offensive and defensive zones,” said Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca. “He played for a national midget championship last season with Strathmore, which brings added experience to our defensive core.”
