Local forward Gable to make Oil Barons debut Friday

FORT McMURRAY, AB (October 30, 2014) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League have recalled affiliate forward Kole Gable (Fort McMurray, AB) from the Midget AAA Fort Saskatchewan Rangers, the team announced today.

Gable is expected to make his Oil Barons debut in tomorrow night’s home game against the Spruce Grove Saints.

“He’s a young player, a local player, and a skilled player,” said Oil Barons head coach and general manager Curtis Hunt. “Whenever he was in our camp or exhibition games, he was able to generate offence. We’re excited to get him in for a home game, against arguably our biggest rival, and get him an opportunity to taste what it will be all about here.”

At just 16 years old, the 5’10”, 170lb centre/left-wing is already ranked fifth in the entire Alberta AAA Midget Hockey League in points, with 4 goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 9 games. Gable is currently the Rangers’ top scorer, with the team sitting second in the AMHL’s Dodge Division with a 4-2-3 record.

Last season, in his final year of minor midget eligibility, Gable scored 15 goals and 36 assists for 51 points in just 37 games for Fort Saskatchewan, tying for 16th in the province in scoring.

Gable was the 9th round selection of the Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2013 WHL Bantam draft.

The Oil Barons host the Spruce Grove Saints for two consecutive home games this weekend on Friday and Saturday, with both games beginning at 8 PM at the Casman Centre. Tickets are available at the Casman Centre box office, online at tickets.oilbarons.com, or by phone at (780) 743-5509.
