Fort McMurray, AB (December 11, 2020) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are excited to announce that 2000-born forward Michael Hodge (Calgary, AB) has committed to the Union College Dutchmen. Hodge’s commitment to the NCAA Division I program in Schenectady, New York, will begin next season.
The speedy, highly-skilled forward joined the Oil Barons before the start of the 2019-20 AJHL season, following an offseason trade.
During his first season in Fort McMurray, Hodge made an immediate offensive impact. Hodge appeared in all 58 of the Oil Barons games last season and led the team in scoring with 30 goals and 27 assists. Hodge’s offensive contributions last season also placed him in the top 25 amongst the AJHL’s scoring leaders.
During the teams first round playoff series with the Whitecourt Wolverines last season, Hodge continued to contribute offensively, scoring five points (two goals, three assists) in six games.
After a delayed start to the 2020-21 AJHL season, Hodge has continued to be one of the Oil Barons leading offensive threats. Before the season’s pause on November 25, Hodge appeared in 12 games (exhibition and regular season included) and scored 14 points (seven goals, seven assists)
Hodge becomes the second Oil Baron to commit to a post secondary institution this season.
The Oil Barons would like to congratulate Michael and the Hodge family on this tremendous accomplishment.
