Fort McMurray Oil Barons Sign Defenceman Ben Albers

Fort McMurray, AB — July 8, 2025 — The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are proud to announce the signing of defenceman Ben Albers for the upcoming 2025–26 Alberta Junior Hockey League season.

A 2007-born product of Prince Frederick, Maryland, Albers grew up in McKinney, Texas, and most recently suited up for Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy 18U Prep in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL). The towering 6’6” blueliner posted 15 points (3 goals, 12 assists) in 36 regular season games during the 2024–25 campaign from the backend.

“I am absolutely fired up to be joining the boys and coaching staff in Fort McMurray for this coming 25/26 season!” said Albers. “I’m excited to continue to grow my game and utilize all this program and community has to offer. It’s going to be a great season!”

Oil Barons Head Coach and General Manager Sam Klassen shared his thoughts on the newest addition to the D-core:

“Ben is a big, physical defender with impressive mobility who has a great first pass. After having the opportunity to see him practice with us last season and then seeing his continued development at our Top 40 Camp this past June, we’re excited to officially welcome him to the Oil Barons family.”

Welcome to Fort McMurray, Ben!
