Coach’s Blog – Barons Split Weekend

The Oil Barons rallied to earn a 4-3 shootout victory over Drayton Valley Saturday after a resounding 6-3 loss to Whitecourt Friday at the Casman Centre.

The Barons team defence and goaltending were below par Friday night as Whitecourt jumped out to a 4-3 lead in an ugly first period. The Barons did settle down in the final 40 minutes but were unable to generate any goals despite having numerous grade A chances. The shots favoured Whitecourt 40-35 but the Barons held the edge in scoring chances 21-16. Hayden Dawes (2nd), Scott Pooley (8th) and Erik Pedersen (3rd) scored for the Barons. Hayden Dawes had 6 shots on net for the MOB.

Saturday saw the Barons score an extra attacker goal with 10 seconds left in the game to tie Drayton valley 3-3 before winning in a shootout. Doug Jones (7th), Parker Evans-Campbell (6th) scored earlier before Sam House played hero scoring his 1st of the year late in the game. Adam Durkee scored the lone shootout goal and Ethan Wood stopped all 3 Drayton Valley shooters for the win. Hayden Dawes had 3 assists in the game and now has 7 points in 5 games. The shots were even at 34-34 and the scoring chances were also even at 14-14.
