Coach’s Blog – Barons go 2-1 for the week

The Oil Barons started the week with a tough loss in Sherwood Park but recovered to sweep Lloydminster on the weekend at the Casman Centre.

The Barons let a 1-0 lead slip away in the last 10 minutes of the game Wednesday in Sherwood Park and fell 2-1 to the Crusaders. Tanner Jaillet played very well in net and John Teets scored his first AJHL goal on the powerplay in the second period. The Barons out shot Sherwood Park 35-28 with both teams getting 10 scoring chances.

Friday at the Casman Centre the MOB responded to a 2-1 defecit with 3 straight goals in the last 17 minutes to post a 4-2 win over Lloydminster. The Barons out shot Lloyd 21-20 and led in scoring chances 12-6. Doug Jones returned to the line-up after missing 6 games and scored his 3rd and 4th goals of the season. Danny Gayle (9th) opened the scoring on a great solo rush and Mike Marianchuk (4th) scored a powerplay goal to close the game.

Saturday saw the Barons post their biggest offensive output of the season cruising to a 6-2 victory over Lloydminster. Once again Doug Jones was the offensive leader with 2 goals (5th,6th) and 1 assist. Linemate Danny Gayle had 3 assists while Hayden Dawes added his first AJHL Goal and added one assist. Matt Purmal scored his 2nd goal of the year on the powerplay and Zach Wittenburg added his 3rd on the powerplay. Rookie Adam Wilcox scored his first AJHL goal and added an assist on the night. Ethan Wood was strong in net stopping 26 shots for his 7th AJHL win.

Did You Know

Doug Jones scored the game winning goal in both wins on the weekend giving him 7GWG in his AJHL career.

Mike Marianchuk collected his 50th career assist in Sunday's victory.

The Barons are now 7-2-1 in the last 10 games.

Rookie Luc Lalor is riding a  5 game point streak while linemate Scott Pooley is on a 4 game point streak.
